It’s hard to believe that it’s already August. The summer has flown by and I am so not ready to get back to reality. As summer comes to a close, I’ve been taking time to reflect on all the great memories and things that I’ve done this summer! July has been a crazy month. I’ve had so many amazing opportunities and I’ve met so many amazing people in my last few weeks in New York. With the new month, it’s time to talk about my favorites from July! Let’s jump right in and check out my beauty, fashion, and random favorites!
This summer continues to be the summer of self-care. I’ve been so into getting down the perfect skincare routine and that has led me to use this mask 2-3 times a week. If you’re looking for something to freshen up and detox your skin, this will have your skin glowing and feeling super clean.
Being in NYC allows me to check out all the cool things that everyone sees on Buzzfeed. I’m not kidding, seven people tagged me in the video about the popup mixing bar. I got an avocado & honey face scrub with volcanic sand mixed in and this stuff is absolutely amazing. It’s a moderate scrub that won’t strip your skin of all necessary oils, but it will still remove dead skin and do what any good exfoliator does.
I’ve been searching for a new scent for a long time. For the past two years, I’ve been opting between Prada Candy and a random spray someone gave me from VS Pink. This is the best perfume I have smelled in a long time. It’s super floral and summery, but also subtle. It also manages to last all day; I’m literally in love.
I’m so glad that the off the shoulder top trend has not died yet. It’s definitely in full swing this summer and I am totally into it. I’ve been loving off the shoulder tops that tie on the arms. They add the perfect amount of detail to any outfit.
I’ve had conflicting feelings about culottes all summer. It seems like everyone and their mom is rocking these here. At first, I thought they were totally ugly and that I could never pull them off, but I tried on a pair from Zara and absolutely fell in love. Culottes are so comfortable and are flattering on any body shape. They can be dressed up or down and are just so versatile. Throw on a pair of cute sandals and you’re good to go. I’ll definitely be rocking these well into the winter.
This month I picked up a kimono from Aritzia. I absolutely love this Canadian fashion label and this kimono did not disappoint. It’s perfect for either hot or chilly weather. It’s super light and easy to throw on over any outfit. It’s definitely an essential coverup.
If you’re looking for new music suggestions, head over to my July Spotify playlist! I’ve really been into this song called Melt by Jones and this band called Vista Kicks. I’ve been into anything that has a super California sort of beachy vibe. Feel It Still by Portugal. the Man has also been on repeat.
I haven’t had much time to read many books, but I do have two that I have been working on getting through this month. Give Us the Ballot by Ari Berman is a great read on the history of voting rights in America. I’ve also been reading Malcom X’s autobiography. I’m not too far into it yet, but I definitely feel that everyone should read it.
That’s all for my July favorites. I can’t wait to see what this next month has in store for me between moving home and starting classes again. What are you looking forward to for August?
